I came from an ordinary family with simple food. We plant our own veggies during the time that my parents were young. They loved small farming as maybe it will help them feel better. Nature always has the energy to give to my parents and that’s why they love what they are doing. One of the veggies that my parents loved to plant was eggplants. And that’s why even if I am living here abroad; I still crave for the simple food that my mother used to cook. In this meal, I stir fried the eggplant mixed with soy sauce and some seasoning blend. It tasted good together with the soft cooked rice. Yum!

I do love this recipe from a celebrity chef Curtis Stone in which I watched in Netflix. This is easy to make and it is so yummy. It is called the “Up in Flames Drunken Bananas with Spiced Ice Cream”.
The wildly dysfunctional Bluth family on “Arrested Development” always seems a little bananas, drunken, spicy, or up in flames, and since they’ve brought me so many hilarious moments, I created this recipe in their honor! And what could be more perfect than a flamed banana dessert? AD fans, you feel me, right?!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Make-Ahead: The spiced ice cream can be made up to 3 days ahead, kept frozen. The flambéed bananas must be served as soon as they are made.
Spiced Ice Cream:
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
Large pinch of ground cloves
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 medium bananas, peeled
1/4 cup golden rum
2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
To make the spiced ice cream:
- In a medium bowl, break up the ice cream with a spoon, and then mix in the nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Cover the ice cream and return it to the freezer. Keep the ice cream frozen until ready to serve.
To cook the bananas:
- In a 12-inch nonstick frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Slice the bananas in half lengthwise and lay the bananas cut side down in the butter mixture. Cook for about 3 minutes, or until the bananas are caramelized on the underside and the sugar mixture has melted and become golden brown.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Add the rum. Using a long match, carefully ignite the rum. Be sure to do this in a well-ventilated area and away from any flammable material. Allow the flame to burn out. Turn the bananas over. Return the pan to medium heat and stir in the cream. Baste the bananas with the caramel sauce for about 1 minute.
- Divide the bananas between two plates. Spoon some sauce over the bananas. Top each with a scoop of ice cream, and then drizzle the remaining sauce over and around the ice cream and bananas. Serve immediately.
Speaking of cooking and entertainment, I have so much fun with using Netflix these days. I can easily watch this cooking show of Curtis Stone anytime I want to. I can watch it at the living room and I can also watch it in the kitchen. Isn’t that one amazing and convenient thing to have? I can easily enliven my kitchen with Netflix you know.
And these holidays, all I have to do is to learn different recipes through Netflix with the show of this celebrity chef Curtis Stone. But that is not all that I can get with Netflix. I can watch whatever shows that I like. I can do that anytime and anywhere I may be. I may be at my home or I may be out, I can surely bring Netflix with me. The good thing with this entertainment with this company is that my monthly subscription is so affordable. I hope this offer will stay forever.

This was the first homemade ice cream that my friends and I had last the 17th of July (my birthday). The taste of this was so yummy. I supposedly will make soy-strawberry ice cream so that my eldest kid can eat but to make it quicker, I chose to have a simple homemade vanilla ice cream using the ice cream maker that my husband bought recently.
Cellophane and polypropylene are both used to package food and other products. As a food packaging, cellophane is easier to manipulate and costs more than polypropylene. Both products are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Cellophane bags are made from cellulose and was invented in the early twentieth century. Cellophane allows moisture to pass through the bag, which prevents condensation. In addition to food packaging, cellophane is used to wrap flowers and gifts, and to make adhesive tape.
What is Cellophane?
Cellophane is made from cellulose, found in the cell walls of green plants. Cellulose makes up at least a third of all plant matter, but wood and cotton are the main sources for industrial purposes as they contain up to 90 percent. Cellophane is resistant to water and odors and it has a distinctive clear appearance.
There are two types of poly bags, and they are both by-products from the petro-chemical industry. Polyethylene is very flexible. It folds easily and is heat seal-able. However, poly bags are porous to moisture and vapor. Polypropylene is stiffer by comparison because it gives better protection against vapors and moisture.
Cellophane is more likely to be used when a company wants to show off products to their customers. This type of bag has a brilliantly clear appearance and it is crackly to the touch. It is ideal for wrapping small items of food, flower bouquets, and gift baskets. It is chemically inert with foodstuffs so it will not affect the flavor of what it contains. Poly bags on the other hand, have a wider range of applications, but it depends on the type of thickness you use. The 1mm bag protects against dust and is often found on food items in retailers. The 1.5mm bag is the average thickness for food bags and offers more protection. Then the 3mm bag is used for heavier items such as tools, light equipment, and furniture.
